

Having a map in regular rotation that so disproportionally affects the player experience based on their choice of ship is bad game design. I personally like the Ocean map, but I also tend to favor open-water long range cruiser play. While skilled players can be effective on Ocean regardless of their choice of ship, that choice of ship has a greater impact on Ocean than any other map. In this way, those maps are “balanced” in a way Ocean is not. Maps with landmasses and open water areas allow greater tactical diversity and allow players to play to their ships strengths. There are a lot of ships in the game that are designed to use hard cover in some manner, whether it be firing from behind islands, using them to close to optimal engagement ranges, etc. īoth teams ”facing the same struggle” isn’t the issue. I love the map and want to see it used as often as Atlantic or Shatter or any of the other high tier maps.

But the map is perfectly fine for game balance. Sometimes you just have to work a little harder. Both teams have to face the same struggle.
